Q. Could you give us a brief overview of your company and its main areas of focus?
Statcon Energiaa has been an industry pioneer in Power Converter manufacturing for over 3.5 decades, with over 100K completed projects and 600+ MW Solar Inverter Installations across the globe. We offer a diversified range of energy solutions in five major divisions: Solar-PowerDefence-Railways-Hydrogen to over 25 countries. From R&D to manufacturing and after-sales – we are with our customers at every step. We have been recognised repeatedly for our innovative technology in providing solar solutions, most recently in 2022 for “Excellence in RE Storage Solutions”. Here’s a glimpse of what we offer:
1. Solar: We are, as of 2024, the largest solar inverter manufacturer in India. We are the only company in India offering a complete range of solar inverters, including Hybrid MPPT PCUs (Storage + Grid export), SEOG MPPT-based PCUs, IP55 Microgrid/ Minigrid Inverters, and Solar Container Solutions. We’re the only company to have designed and manufactured a 100% Indian-made solar on-grid inverter.
2. Defence: We specialise in designing and manufacturing maritime rectifiers, frequency converters, load banks and much more for Maritime Security. Our products have been running successfully across Naval Dockyards for over 13 years. We made the first MW Rectifier for the Indian Navy, and also now exporting the same to our friendly countries. India’s Largest Load Bank at 1.25MW capacity, installed at Naval Dockyard, Vishakhapatnam, was designed and manufactured for by us for the special application. Our Shore Supply Battery-cum-Rectifiers and Static/Rotary Frequency Converters up to 600KW for Ships and submarines are also serving the nation at Naval Dockyards of Vishakhapatnam and Mumbai. We have more than 250 GPUs (40KVA-100KVA) powering the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, HAL, Private Civil aircraft, Government of Uganda, Nepal and Seychelles.
3. Power Utilities: Statcon Energiaa’s industrial battery chargers are spread across the length and breadth of India, with over 20,000 units currently functioning. We offer a range of products for power utilities that cover a wide spectrum with an aim to modernise India’s power grid. Our major clients include DMRC, Jaipur Metro, Indian Army, Air force, Navy, NTPC, NHPC, BHEL, NHDC, electricity boards of MP, HP, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha etc.
4. Railways: Statcon Energiaa designs and manufactures Integrated Power Supply (IPS) systems for Railway Signaling Installations, Solar Level Crossing Gate (LC Gate) for remote areas, 48V Telecom power supply for Railways Signaling
5. Green Hydrogen: Statcon Energiaa’s HighPower Rectifiers are designed for high-voltage and high-current industrial downstream applications like Electroplating and Hydrogen Production. Our Military-Grade power electronics assure long operability, minimal maintenance, and cutting-edge technology. We offer efficient and reliable DC Power Supplies for industrial water electrolysis. The company is certified as per ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, MSME, NSIC and SMERA. A select range of solar inverters is also certified as per IEC and BIS.
Q.What have been the major accomplishments of your company over the past few years?
The past few years have been monumental for us in terms of innovation in our products to make customised, scalable products for renewable energy industry. Our major accomplishments have been as follows:
1. Designing and manufacturing the first and only truly Made-in-India solar on-grid inverter (both hardware and software). This product is ideal for PM Surya Ghar and we’re already in the prestigious Class-1 supplier category for solar inverters - with more than 50% local content.
2. Being the only company in India to design and manufacture customised Solar Inverter systems for India’s biggest microgrid players. We are pleased to say that for each of our microgrid/Mini grid customer, we have offered a completely solution for their needs – keeping in mind their projects’ social, cultural, financial and, of course, energy needs.
Entering and capturing a major portion of the Green Hydrogen Rectifier market. In an industry which is very slow growing (green hydrogen), we managed to not just execute orders for rectifiers for electrolysers, but also to have successfully commissioned our product in difficult terrains of green hydrogen projects (eg recent 1.2MW Rectifier for Electrolyzer at LEH).
Q.What are the current trends in the energy and power industry, and how is the company adapting to these trends?
Technology shelf life has decreased greatly, owing to frequent changes of other supported products. For eg: As Efficiencies of Solar panels is improving each year, so now Inverter R&D has to keep up with new topologies, or components, which can accommodate higher current ratings. Also, as the threat of disruptions in supply chain can happen any moment, localisation of materials has become a necessity, hence our focus on enhancing make in India.
Q. How does the company intend to maintain its lead in the fiercely competitive energy market?
We develop best products for the application, not just for the bottom-line profits. In India, most companies’ R&D is basically cost cutting department, as it unfortunate now that innovation is now being dictated by Purchase managers or Marketing teams. At Statcon Energiaa, the management is full of electrical and electronics engineers, who have a very hands on approach to provide the best product for the application, not always the cheapest one, and that is where our customers recognise and reward our efforts. Manufacturing in India is difficult, but it leads to better value for the application.
Q. In what way will attending the REI Exhibition aid the company in achieving competitiveness based on business objectives?
The state of R&D in India is such that people are still in disbelief that STATCON ENERGIAA has actually managed to create a fully Indian Grid Tied Inverter. So we wish to focus on showing our efforts to the business community that yes, it is possible and anyone can achieve their R&D goals, if we really put our focus and finances towards it. We want to show, that a move away from pure trading is beneficial to India’s Energy Independence goals. We attend REI exhibition every year with the aim of understanding the new energy trends and to see how we can better cater to our customers. We have got several awards at the REI awards held each year for our innovative products such as our “Microgrid Energy Corridor” or our “Bi-Directional Hybrid Solutions”. REI has always brought us a very interesting mix of attendees – ranging from energy enthusiasts to global manufacturers who are interested in knowing what India is doing in terms of innovation and manufacturing.
Q. What are the company’s strategic goals for the coming years, and is it targeting any specific markets or regions for expansion?
Our company’s strategic goals for the coming years are currently manifold. We are focusing more on innovative solar solutions as well as expanding our green hydrogen business division. These two, whether individually seen or together as part of a single renewable solution, are the foreseeable future of the renewable energy industry. As for the regions, we aim to expand our business currently in India as well as similar nations which have huge requirements of energy for development
