Himachal Pradesh and Telangana Sign MoU for Significant Hydroelectric Projects
Himachal Pradesh and Telangana have entered into a pivotal agreement that is set to bolster India's renewable energy sector. The Himachal Pradesh government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government for the development of two significant hydropower projects in the Lahaul-Spiti district. These projects include the 400 MW Seli Hydroelectric Project and the 120 MW Miyad Hydroelectric Project.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The projects will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, ensuring sustainable, long-term benefits for both states. The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stated that this marks the first step towards building a self-reliant state and leveraging Himachal's wealth for the benefit of its people.
While speaking to the media, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stressed the need to harness the state's natural resources for its sustainable development. 'Two years ago, when we formed the government, we recognised our state's greatest wealth lies in its natural resources. Previous administrations entered into agreements for hydropower projects based on the conditions of their time. However, our objective is to harness these resources to generate energy that directly benefits our people,' he said.
