Waaree Energies, an Indian manufacturer of solar PV modules, has started trial production at its cutting-edge 5.4 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Chikhli, Gujarat. With this 5.4 GW capacity, it becomes the largest advanced solar cell manufacturing plant in India.
By prioritising indigenous solar cell production, Waaree seeks to minimise dependence on imports, mitigate cost volatility due to global supply chain disruptions, and establish India as a leading player in the global clean energy sector. This advanced facility, designed to manufacture high-efficiency solar cells, not only addresses the growing domestic demand but also enhances India's presence in international markets.
Amit Paithankar, Director and CEO, Waaree Energies remarked, "The initiation of trial production at our solar cell manufacturing facility marks a significant milestone for us and highlights India’s commitment to advancing renewable energy.
