Telangana's Green Energy Policy Targets ?2 Lakh Crore Investment and 1 Lakh Jobs

06 Jan 2025

The state cabinet has reportedly approved a new policy focused on green and renewable energy, which includes various tax incentives and benefits for the sector. The state aims to attract investments totalling Rs 1.98 lakh crore and create 1.14 lakh jobs over the next decade, with plans to add 20,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

The government has proposed reimbursing stamp duty on land acquired for setting up green energy plants. Furthermore, all MSMEs using solar and wind energy will be granted an electricity duty exemption for eight years. The requirement for no objection certificates (NOCs) from the Pollution Control Board will also be removed, and several approvals will be simplified through the TS-iPASS system. In addition, water charges for solar energy facilities will also be reimbursed.

The Congress government aims to encourage the installation of rooftop solar systems in government schools, Indiramma houses, public buildings, and village panchayat offices. Land designated for renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, pumped storage, battery energy storage, and others, will be categorised as non-agricultural, with no restrictions on land use. The policy eliminates the need for permission to change the land's usage.

New plants could be set up on both private and government-owned land, with government properties available for lease at low costs. The state would reimburse its portion of the GST related to capital investments. The policy would also promote women's self-help groups to establish solar power plants ranging from 500 kW to 2 MW in capacity, with Discoms ensuring the purchase of the generated electricity.
