Outlook 2025: India's Renewable Sector Continues to Grow; Industry Leaders Optimistic About the Future

31 Dec 2024

In recent years, India has made significant progress in the renewable energy space, and the year 2024 is no exception, as leaders in the sector believe the country is well on its way to meet its green energy objectives. He stated that the remarkable progress made recently is due to the collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He also mentioned that India's total power generation capacity has reached 452.69 GW, with renewable energy playing a significant role in the overall power mix. This marks a major transformation in India's energy landscape, reflecting the country's rising dependence on clean, non-fossil fuel-based energy sources.

As part of its efforts to decrease dependence on fossil fuels, India had made a bold five-point "Panchamrit" commitment at COP26 in 2021. This pledge included achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity, meeting half of its energy needs from renewable sources, and reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030.

India aims to reduce the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% and is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Green energy, as a strategy for climate mitigation, is not only a priority for India but has also gained significant momentum worldwide. Moving into 2025, industry players believe that the significant progress made in the renewable energy sector will not only be sustained but will continue to accelerate.
