23 Dec 2024

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kuwait, India and Kuwait signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering defence, sports, and cultural cooperation, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Sunday.

Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary of CPV & OIA at the Ministry of External Affairs, stated during a special briefing yesterday that the MoUs are anticipated to strengthen the multifaceted bilateral relationship and create opportunities for new areas of collaboration.

He said, "Following the delegation-level discussions, four bilateral agreements were signed during the visit. The first is a MoU on defence cooperation, the second is a cultural exchange program for the period 2025-2029, and the third is an executive program for sports cooperation from 2025 to 2028. Additionally, Kuwait has been admitted as a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

He added that we are highly confident that this historic visit by the Prime Minister will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between India and Kuwait. Both countries have identified several key areas for cooperation, and their governments will work together to implement the plans developed during this visit.

The MoU on Defence Cooperation will formalise bilateral collaboration in defence-related matters. Key areas of cooperation include training, personnel and specialist exchanges, joint exercises, collaboration in the defence industry, provision of defence equipment, and joint research and development efforts, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
