On Monday, NHPC announced collaboration with BEML to explore potential opportunities for developing desilting and dredging solutions for hydropower plants. NHPC further stated that these solutions will contribute to alleviating urban waterlogging during the monsoon by enabling quicker clearance of canals and culverts, as well as aiding in dredging and desilting efforts in inland waterways, coastal regions, ponds, and lakes.
It was also mentioned that NHPC and BEML have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic partnership focused on developing advanced desilting and dredging solutions for hydropower plants. NHPC stated that following successful implementation in pilot projects, the solutions are anticipated to be expanded to other hydropower plants, thereby enhancing India's renewable energy infrastructure.
R K Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, stated, "Our goal is to improve power generation efficiency, lower maintenance expenses, and contribute to India's bold renewable energy targets. This collaboration will not only strengthen the power sector but also have a positive effect on the environment and surrounding communities."
BEML's CMD, Shantanu Roy, remarked, "By harnessing our combined expertise, we strive to create cutting-edge desilting and dredging solutions that improve the operational efficiency of hydroelectric power plants while also supporting the nation's wider objectives of enhancing infrastructure and water management systems."
