On Friday, Ambuja Cements, a company under the Adani Group, revealed the launch of a 200 MW solar power project in Khavda, Gujarat, which will provide green energy to 20 of its cement plants. The Khavda project is a key component of Adani Cements' initiative to produce 1 GW of renewable energy through solar and wind projects, along with 376 MW of power from waste heat recovery systems (WHRS).
As per a statement, "The balance of 806 MW capacities from this project is currently at different stages of commissioning and is expected to begin transmission in phases between March 2025 and June 2025." Out of the remaining 806 MW capacity from the project, 156 MW wind power from Khavda and 300 MW solar powers from Rajasthan are expected to be commissioned in a phased manner by March 2025.
The remaining 350 MW of solar power is expected to be operational by June 2025. This will have a positive impact on the company's EBITDA, as this development will lead to an impressive saving of 70% compared to the current power costs, it added. The company is investing approximately Rs 10,000 crore to fulfil 60% of its power needs through green energy by FY28.
