Delhi’s winter peak power demand is projected to exceed 6,300 MW this season, surpassing last year’s record of 5,816 MW, according to an official. The official also noted that power consumption in the National Capital Territory (NCT) has been consistently rising, with the winter months expected to follow the record-setting trend observed during the summer. During the summer, Delhi reached an all-time high peak power demand of 8,656 MW.
Discoms such as BSES have secured over half of their power requirements through renewable energy sources. The power company, which caters to around 50 lakh consumers and nearly two crore residents in South, West, East, and Central Delhi, is focusing on sustainable energy solutions.
BSES plans to use more than 2,000 MW of green energy, comprising 840 MW from solar, 546 MW from hydropower, 500 MW from wind, and 40 MW from waste-to-energy, as per the BSES officials. Additionally, over 180 MW of power will be sourced from rooftop solar plants, reflecting a move towards a more sustainable energy mix during the winter seasons.
