On November 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the foundation stone for India’s largest green hydrogen hub at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam. The project, spearheaded by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), is a key initiative under India’s Green Hydrogen Mission, which was launched in 2021 with the goal of establishing the country as a global leader in green hydrogen production.
Spanning over 1,600 acres, the hub is poised to turn Andhra Pradesh into a major centre for green energy. With an anticipated investment of ?1.85 lakh crore, the facility will generate 1,500 tonnes of green hydrogen, 4,500 tonnes of green ammonia, 1,500 tonnes of green methanol, and 1,500 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or green urea each day. This output is expected to position India as a leading exporter of green energy products.
The project is supported by an 80 million-litre-per-day desalination plant, a GIS substation, and robust port logistics, all designed to ensure efficient and sustainable operations. This hub contributes to India's bold ambition of producing 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030.
