Promoting Solar Power in Uttar Pradesh: A Sustainable Future for Households and Farmers

04 Nov 2024

Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is making impressive progress towards energy self-reliance by focusing on ambitious targets in solar and bio-energy, an official release said.

The Yogi Adityanath government aims to ensure complete electricity access across the state while laying a strong groundwork for a $1 trillion economy driven by renewable energy. The government is actively working towards achieving energy self-sufficiency in Uttar Pradesh within the next two and a half to three years.

Significant efforts are underway to expand access to solar energy throughout the state. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'PM Suryaghar Yojana', the state government aims to connect 2.5 million households with solar energy over the next three years.

Over 48,000 homes have already had solar panels installed, with an additional 30,000 expected to benefit by the end of this financial year. This initiative seeks to enhance energy availability for households, support environmental conservation, and reduce the cost of electricity.

The 'PM Kusum Yojana' also aims to generate 2,000 MW of solar power by 2027. The program allows farmers to set up solar panels on unutilised land, providing them with an extra source of income while promoting sustainable energy production across the state.

The Yogi Adityanath government is taking major initiatives to promote large-scale solar power projects across Uttar Pradesh. This includes developing solar parks with a combined capacity of 4800 MW, for which the tender process is currently in progress.
