Swati Salgaocar, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Western Region, stated that India stands at the crossroads of energy transition, where green hydrogen will play a vital role in the country's journey towards sustainability.
She stated that India has the potential to emerge as a global leader in green hydrogen by 2030, provided there is collaboration between the public and private sectors. “By establishing robust policy frameworks, fostering public-private partnerships, and driving innovation, we aim to take the lead in green hydrogen production by 2030,” she said.
At the CII national summit on 'Catalysing India's Clean Energy Future', she emphasised that focusing on renewable energy objectives, particularly in the research and production of green hydrogen, will enhance economic growth and foster energy independence.
Goa has set an ambitious goal to establish pilot projects for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted this initiative during his budget speech for 2023–24, though further details were not provided. The state’s clean energy roadmap outlines a goal to eliminate coal and oil use for industrial power by 2050, transitioning instead to green energy and biomass.
