The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has unveiled guidelines for the execution of innovative initiatives under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, allocating ?500 crore to encourage advancements in rooftop solar technology.
The notification released on October 8, 2024, seeks to encourage start-ups, institutions, and industries to develop innovative solutions like block-chain-enabled peer-to-peer solar trading, smart materials, and solar systems that integrate with electric vehicles.
Under this scheme, financial support will be offered for up to 60% of the project cost or a maximum of ?30 crore, whichever amount is less. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will serve as the Scheme Implementation Agency (SIA). Moreover, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will launch annual innovation awards, with prizes reaching up to ?1 crore, to promote further research.
The government is seeking to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity under the PM-Surya Ghar Yojana, which was approved in February 2024 with a budget of ?75,021 crore and will be implemented by FY 2026-27. Proposals for innovative projects will be invited by MNRE, emphasizing the importance of joint research and international collaboration.
