India's pursuit of global leadership in renewable energy has gained new momentum with Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi embarking on a three-day visit to Germany. This visit coincides with India's achievement of 40% of its total power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2021, surpassing its 2030 goal.
During the visit, Joshi will participate in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference on October 7-8 and engage in bilateral discussions with ministers from Germany and the UK. They will focus on collaboration in green hydrogen, renewable energy financing, and sustainable development. The minister will also highlight India's position on green shipping and efforts to decarbonise the mobility sector.
The visit seeks to enhance India's energy transition initiatives, anticipated to create substantial investment and job prospects. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed great importance on strengthening India-Germany relations,” a government official noted, highlighting the recent launch of the India-Germany Platform for Investment in Renewable Energies at RE-INVEST 2024, which aims to boost renewable energy projects.
The visit aims to strengthen India's position in the global energy transition and bolster international initiatives, such as the International Solar Alliance.
