30 Sep 2024

Ambuja Cements has joined the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation (AFID), becoming the first cement manufacturer in the world to be a part of this initiative. The alliance promotes collaboration across industries to accelerate the transition to net zero in line with the Paris Agreement.

Recognising the cement industry's significant carbon footprint, Ambuja Cements is dedicated to reaching net zero emissions by 2050, with its targets validated by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI).

To support these goals, the company has announced investments of ?100 billion in renewable energy projects, including 1 gigawatt of renewable capacity and 376 megawatts from waste heat recovery systems (WHRS). By FY28, these projects are expected to meet 60% of the company's power needs from green energy.

Karan Adani, Non-Executive Director, Ambuja Cements, said, “This is a key milestone in our sustainability journey. Joining the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation gives us an opportunity to collaborate with global peers and further reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.”

It is worth noting that in the last financial year, Ambuja Cements utilised over 8.6 million tonnes of waste resources and achieved impressive sustainability milestones, making it 11 times water-positive and 8 times plastic-negative.
