NLC India Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, is excited to celebrate its 10th anniversary of renewable energy generation on September 28, 2024. On this day in 2015, the company embarked on a significant journey into renewable energy by launching a 10 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Neyveli.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, and the guidance of the Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, NLCIL is confidently and steadily transforming India’s energy landscape.
Following the Prime Minister's 2015 call for a significant transition to renewable energy as the nation shifted from “Megawatt to Gigawatt,” NLC India Limited showcased its commitment in this direction by becoming the first CPSE in the country to generate 1 GW of renewable energy.
NLCIL, primarily focused on lignite-based power generation, has expanded into renewable energy by developing 1,380 MW of solar power capacity and 51 MW of wind power capacity. In the process, NLCIL has produced 1234 crore units of green energy, preventing 10 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, providing millions of people with affordable and sustainable power, and improving their lives with cleaner air.
