On Wednesday, Gautam Solar revealed its entry into solar cell manufacturing, planning to invest Rs.1,000 crore in a cutting-edge 2 GW facility. This new plant aims to address the increasing demand for Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) panels, which are crucial for government-backed subsidy initiatives that require locally sourced components.
By producing high-quality, DCR-compliant solar cells, Gautam Solar seeks to enhance its competitiveness and establish itself as a formidable alternative to Chinese manufacturers, who currently dominate India’s solar cell market. CEO Gautam Mohanka emphasized that this facility is in line with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) guidelines promoting domestic solar cell production.
This expansion into solar cell manufacturing is expected to play a vital role in helping India achieve its ambitious renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030, further positioning the country as a global leader in solar energy.
