The central government has launched an exciting initiative under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, enabling homeowners to lease their rooftops for solar power installations. This program provides homeowners with the choice to receive either rental income or electricity benefits in exchange for utilizing their rooftops.
According to the draft guidelines released by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) will manage the leasing of these rooftops. Homeowners won't incur any costs for the installation or maintenance of solar systems; RESCOs will handle all aspects of the setup.
After five years, homeowners can expect to transfer ownership of the solar power plant to themselves, with rental payments adjusted based on electricity usage. Additionally, various organizations, including government institutions and agencies like KSEB, can set up these solar systems.
For homeowners who don't require the generated electricity, the excess can be sold back to the KSEB grid, providing an additional revenue stream.
