RE-INVEST 2024: Gujarat Leads the Charge in Green Hydrogen with Key Industry Pioneers and Innovators

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, successfully hosted the 4th edition of the Global Renewable Energy Investors’ Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) from September 16 to 18, 2024, at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. A key highlight of this esteemed summit was the CEO Roundtable on “Accelerating Green Hydrogen Production through Green Jobs in Gujarat,” which took place on September 16 at 2 PM. This important session was organized by the Government of Gujarat as part of its commitment to advancing India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Gujarat has emerged as a leader in the renewable energy sector, playing a pivotal role in the green hydrogen revolution. The state boasts substantial domestic hydrogen demand and strong supply-side resources, including abundant renewable energy potential, a dedicated transmission corridor, and vast land areas ideal for developing a robust green hydrogen ecosystem.

The roundtable, chaired by Shri S. J. Haider, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy and Petrochemicals Department for the Government of Gujarat, centred on the state's strategic initiatives to enhance the green hydrogen ecosystem. Gujarat aims to achieve a production target of 3 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen. The discussion highlighted Gujarat's significant potential to contribute to the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The roundtable began with a firm reaffirmation of Gujarat’s dedication to building a thriving green hydrogen ecosystem. An engaging audio-visual presentation illuminated the state's significant potential in this field, showcasing the initiatives already in place to establish Gujarat as a frontrunner in green hydrogen production.

J. Haider, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat.

Moderated by Mr. Nishaanth Balalashanmugam, Director of the Green Hydrogen Organization, the roundtable sparked an engaging discussion on the economic viability of green hydrogen. Industry leaders from prominent companies like ReNew, Hygenco, Goenka Group, and KPMG shared valuable insights into key factors affecting green hydrogen pricing, the strategic benefits of industrial clusters, and the logistical challenges associated with hydrogen transportation.
