16 Sep 2024

The Gensol Engineering Limited and Matrix Gas and Renewables Limited Consortium have been selected to develop a pioneering green hydrogen valley in Pune, Maharashtra, marking India’s inaugural green hydrogen valley. This initiative will be executed on a build-and-operate basis and has received support from the Department of Science and Technology and the National Chemical Laboratory, which will contribute Rs 2.5 million to the project. The primary aim is to provide green hydrogen for Pune’s specialty chemicals sector and is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

In September 2024, the consortium secured a contract to launch India’s first bio-hydrogen project, valued at Rs 1.64 billion. This venture is set to generate 1 tonne of hydrogen daily through the conversion of 25 tonnes of bio-waste. Additionally, in August 2024, the consortium won a bid to establish a 237 MW hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing facility.
