Ahmedabad: Gujarat plans to install 48 MW of solar rooftop systems on various government buildings during the current financial year, with a funding allocation of Rs 177 crore, as announced by the state government on Sunday.
To leverage Gujarat’s solar energy potential, the state’s Climate Change Department is spearheading these installations.
By March 2024, 3,023 solar rooftop systems with a total capacity of 56.8 MW will be operational across multiple government departments.
This year, the state aims to expand its efforts by adding another 48 MW of solar rooftop capacity on government buildings, supported by an investment of Rs 177.4 crore.
The state has maximized its solar potential through initiatives like the Charanka Solar Park and extensive rooftop solar installations for households, solidifying its position as a leading solar energy producer in India. Coastal wind farms have also significantly bolstered the state’s renewable energy capacity.
