An official from the Indore Municipal Corporation stated that the construction of a 60 megawatt solar power plant in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 308 crore, is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the plant, which will be situated on an area of 220 acres in Jalud village in the adjacent district, via video conference on December 25th of last year.
The official stated that out of the estimated cost of Rs 308 crore, a sum of Rs 244 crore was raised by the Indore civic body through the issuance of green bonds to the public in February of last year. IMC commissioner Shivam Verma said construction on the plant has commenced, and we hope to have it finished by year's end.
He said that the IMC is required to incur a monthly electricity bill of approximately Rs 25 crore in order to transport Narmada river water to Indore, situated 80 kilometres away from Jalud, and to further distribute it to every household. The use of electricity generated at the solar power plant at Jalud will reduce IMC's monthly bill by about Rs 5 crore.
As per the officials, Indore, the most pristine city in the country, is heavily dependent on the Narmada River for its water requirements. Coincidentally, the groundwater level of the city is steadily going down.
