On Thursday, the state-owned gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd. and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) entered into a partnership to explore the establishment of 1 GW solar and wind projects, as well as jointly operating gas-based power plants within the state. GAIL stated in a statement that a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two entities.
It stated that RRVUNL and GAIL would investigate the possibility of transferring RRVUNL's gas-based power plant, which is located in Dholpur and Ramgarh, Rajasthan, to a proposed joint venture company between GAIL and RRVUNL, with the aim of optimising the operations of gas-based power plants in Rajasthan.
It further added that the two parties will collaborate towards the establishment of approximately 1,000 MW of solar and wind projects in suitable land parcels.
The statement said that detailed due diligence/feasibility studies for each project shall be conducted to establish the techno-commercial viability of the projects prior to forming a joint venture company.
GAIL supplies gas to industrial customers in the catchment area of Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Khuskhera, Kota, Jaisalmer, and the Chittorgarh region of Rajasthan, including Chambal fertilisers and Shriram fertilisers, through its approximately 1,090 km natural gas pipeline network.
