According to the information, solar module manufacturing companies like Tata Power Solar, ReNew Photovoltaic, and Avaada Electro have approached the government to approve visa applications for Chinese engineers and technicians as they expand operations to meet the country's ambitious renewable energy targets. Since January, the three companies have sought government assistance in obtaining "business visas" for 36 Chinese professionals to assist in their solar module manufacturing, a person familiar with the matter said.
They said that Tata Power Solar Limited has sought approval for 20 visa applications filed by Chinese engineers in 2024; ReNew Power has requested visas for nine Chinese engineers; and Avaada Electro has submitted applications for seven professionals critical to its ongoing projects across the country.
All three companies have submitted applications to the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI), a government agency that oversees the implementation of renewable energy projects. SECI has forwarded the applications to its parent ministry, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; they said the last application was filed this week.
