Maharashtra: Power utility to pay staff to buy mask & sanitizer

13 Mar 2022

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has announced financial aid of Rs 1,000 to Class III and Class IV employees, and its contract workers, for purchasing masks and sanitizers.

MSEDCL public relations officer for Aurangabad Zone Dnyaneshwar Ardad said that the sum of Rs 1,000 for purchase of masks and sanitizers will be reflected in salaries for March to be credited early next month.

“A considerable number of staff has on-field duties, especially of trouble-shooting and maintenance. They would need these essential items amid the COVID-19 crisis,” he said.

Among other policy decisions, MSEDCL has also asked all zones not to carry out planned power-cuts during the current lockdown in the country. “The top-brass has also asked not to undertake routine activities such as noting down of meter reading, bill recovery, drive against power theft and disconnections. The instructions have been issued in keeping with the norms of social distancing,” power utility official said.

As per directives issued by the government, MSEDCL offices will have only 5% attendance of employees as far as possible and the work-from-home culture will be practiced till April 14.

“All employees will be encouraged to use tools such as e-mail, video conferencing, WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook to streamline the daily working till the lockdown gets over,” MSEDCL officials said.

The state power utility has once again appealed to consumers to submit meter reading towards monthly power consumption by using the mobile app, failing which they have to pay average bill.

The mobile application can be downloaded from Google Playstore and offers a wide range of benefits to customers, including viewing and paying of monthly bills and routing complaints besides self-submission of power reading.
