India invites UK to participate in upcoming green hydrogen, storage bids

Power and renewable energy minister R K Singh said India is interested in collaborating with the UK on offshore wind and has invited them to participate in the upcoming green hydrogen, lithium-ion bids. Singh was attending a meeting with  Alok Sharma , COP26 President here. According to the official statement, during the meeting, discussions were held on the need to increase storage capacity in view of India’s 450-GW renewable energy capacity target by 2030. Singh stressed the need for developed and developing countries to work together to bring down the cost of energy storage. Apart from this, Singh added that India has already retired 16,369 MW of inefficient thermal units till March, 2021. According to the official statement, Alok Sharma also discussed phasing out coal-fired power plants in the meeting.
