Siemens Gamesa Bagged Largest Order for Wind Turbines in India

Siemens Gamesa RE, the Spanish wind energy giant, announced it has bagged largest order for wind turbines in India. “Under the terms of the EPC contract entered into with Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of Sembcorp Energy India Ltd, Siemens Gamesa will build the 300 MW wind farm, at which it will install 143 of its SG 2.1-122 turbines, making it the largest single order secured by Siemens Gamesa in India,” the Co. said in a statement, adding its positioning in India has received an imp. boost with the order. Sembcorp Energy India is an IPP, develops & operates power generation assets across thermal & RE sectors in India. At the end of Dec’17, the Co. had an overall power generation capacity of around 4.37 GW spread across seven states in India. Under the order, Siemens Gamesa will provide all the infra. needed to equip & operate the facility, located in Gujarat & will also maintain the facility, which is due to be commissioned in Apr’19, for 10 years. Co. also announced this is the first order placed for the SG 2.1-122 turbines which are specifically fine-tuned for low-speed sites such as those prevalent in India. The wind farm will be connected to India's Interstate Transmission System & supply power to multiple states, helping them meet their RE req. "This contract marks a landmark in Siemens Gamesa's strategy in India on account of both the size of the project & the technology selected. Moreover, it sends a very positive signal regarding the market's momentum & shores up our confidence in its full recovery," said Ramesh Kymal, CEO of Siemens Gamesa's onshore division in India. Siemens Gamesa has been present in India since 2009.
